P&D Design | Brazil Design Research and Development Conference is one of the most traditional and important events in the country as well as Latin America’s major venue. It is organized by an academic institution and takes place every two years in different regions of Brazil. For seeking to discuss design research and education, it offers a crucial space to reveal and debate relevant questions resulting from research either applied or scientific which leads to the advancement of knowledge in design. The range of topics listed on P&D includes all sorts of design subjects such as: project, technology, education, methodology, theory, critique and history.
P&D was launched in Sao Paulo in 1994. UNIP, AEND BR and the Design Studies Journal organized it. Its first edition attracted researchers from eight Brazilian states, involving 24 institutions dedicated to both research and educational as well as international guests.
After that, there were the following P&D editions: 1996, in Belo Horizonte, hosted by UEMG; 1998, in Rio de Janeiro, by PUC-Rio; 2000, in Novo Hamburgo, by Feevale; 2002, in Brasilia, by UnB; 2004, in Sao Paulo, by FAAP; 2006, in Curitiba, by UNICENP; and 2008, in Sao Paulo, by SENAC; 2010, in Sao Paulo, by Anhembi Morumbi University. In all occasions, the conference enjoyed internationally renowned speakers such as Victor Margolin, Charles Owen, Silvia Pizzocaro, Bernard Darras, Carlos Vezzoli, Catherine Dixon, Ananthapuram G. Rao, Bernhard E. Bürdek, Brigitte Borja de Mozota, Chiara Colombi, Janet Murray, Joanna Berzowska and, Teri Rueb.
